New Owners for Swallowcliffe Retirement Home
The Swallowcliffe Retirement Home in Seaton, Devon has been been sold by administrators to M&J Care Homes Ltd. Julie Palmer and Ian Walker of specialist professional services organisation Begbies Traynor Group were appointed joint administrators for owners Starlight Care Limited and Starlight Holdings LLP in September 2007 following trading problems at Swallowcliffe and its sister home, The Koppers in Kilmington, Devon which led to a fall in resident numbers and consequent losses.
The majority of staff were retained and the two homes were successfully traded in administration for more than seven months. The Administrators worked closely with the Care Homes regulatory body, CSCI, to ensure that residents remained unaffected by the company’s financial troubles and that quality of care was not only maintained but further improved.
The Koppers was sold in February this year (2008). Commenting on the sale now of Swallowcliffe, Julie Palmer says: “I am delighted that these care homes have been sold to experienced owners who will continue to offer a high level of service to the residents. I would like to thank the staff, the residents and their families for their support during the administration period.”
The new owners of Swallowcliffe, M & J Care Homes, already operate two other care homes: The Hollies in Castle Cary & St. Bathens in Bath.
